*Commentary by Dr. Mark McFarland (Georgia State University)
*Features two compositions for clarinet, violin, and doublebass
Tapestry: New Music from the Americas is a well-chosen title for an exceptional new recording. All of the works contained on this compact disc were composed within the last ten years, and several were newly commissioned specifically for this project. The composers who contributed to the project represent the Americas: Mexico, the United States, Argentina, and Canada. The performers recorded here are all extraordinary; of special note is the clarinetist Frankie Kelly, whose sumptuous tone and impeccable phrasing make her one of the hidden virtuosos on this instrument. Grammy-winning bassist Eliot Wadopian is also featured. The result is a recording with an international feel, born from the close collaboration of some of the finest musicians in the Americas today.

Reviews & Commentary"...but I have listened to it (Tapestry) twice now, in the car, and feel like I am in a jungle of bird calls, rhythms, dances, and fantastic dreams-What a fine project and what an excellent performance you gave!" "Six pieces of excellent new chamber music..promises the listener a melting pot of musical styles, which this CD delievers to delightful effect. Every piece on the disc is a composition of the highest order, and one is struck immediately by the immense enthusiasm of the performers. An interpretive spontaneity runs throughout the disc. This is a very engaging and appealing disc of great new chamber music." "But this is good music to hear: dramatic, vigorous, and written in a showy and stylish manner.... Performances are very good here, with clarinetist Frankie J. Kelly and violinist Adrian Justus deserving special mention from a noteworthy clutch of players." 21st Century Music |
